Yes, AND, do “know” for sure?
“Yes, AND, do ‘know’ for sure?”
What do you “know” with absolute certainty?
Be honest.
What so-called knowledge do you have which is really not just a a belief or a supposition or a concept or a construct masquerading as something you “know”?
I bet the list you can come up with is very short. Mine is. It’s increasingly so, in fact.
Here’s one of the most important items on my list: the foundations of our society/culture/civilization are inadequate for supporting an ever-evolving functional union.
They’re not up for the task.
And, that’s ok. This is a good thing to see, in fact. It CAN be good, at least.
Time and time, this particular tool continues to prove effective and valuable: “Yes, and, do you ‘know’ for sure”?
1st: Saying “YES” acknowledges what is. Acknowledging what is happening in the moment is always necessary. We need to be clear about context.
2nd: Adding “AND” utilizes the principle of both/and. Two or three or four or or or or points of view and perspectives can (and have to) exist simultaneously.
3rd: Asking about “knowledge” highlights the possibility and probability—in a curious way—that what we are actually dealing with is just a belief.
4th: Ending with “for sure” moves us in the direction of considering what we actually can know, of rebuilding a relationship and of establishing a foundation which is grounded in what we are willing to agree upon.
To be clear, we CAN BE SURE about PLENTY, and the best part is, the list is so truly enriching and fulfilling and enlivening.
The more I grow, though, the more I see how we are operating based upon concepts and constructs, not knowledge.
Again, the list of things I am able to say I know for sure is so delightfully rich and clear and solid, but the list of things that I am needing to be open to learning more about, open to understanding in a new way, open to allowing to flow in a new direction that is consistently expanding and is going to continue to expand…
That list is growing.
As soon as enough of us get on board with prioritizing what we can actually know for sure, the better. I assure you, the beauty we all desire is there.
