Mind Frame.

March 5, 2022

I’ll be honest, it has taken me a while to get into the right frame of mind here. Perhaps you can imagine why, but this is not about that. This is about KORU, and what it’s here for.

On a regular basis, in the context of exploring something physical, I often hear, “That feels unnatural”.

Likewise, “This is unnatural to me.”

For now, let’s pretend we have no idea, really, what “natural” means. Also, let’s call it “Nature”, with a capital “N”. Just for fun.

Instead, let’s consider that what we are really referring to is what’s “normal”. We are, after all, an amalgamation of various tendencies and patterns and habits. The norms.

Normalcies/Tendencies/Patterns/Habits/etc. definitely do reflect an aspect of “Nature”, but not “Nature” in its entirety.

There are certain tendencies in Nature, for sure. Observable patterns. And most animals seem to have relatively predictable habits. It’s safe to say there are “norms” to Nature.

The question is, though, do we truly know OUR “nature” (with a lower case “n”)? Do we truly know what “human nature” is?

To be blunt, after over 15 years of relevant research, I am willing to say, for the most part, NO. Mostly, we are not aware of our nature.

I am going to go out on a limb here, in fact, and say, quite frankly, there is essentially no such thing as “human nature”. It’s basically just something we’ve made up, or we’ve bought into.

Are genetics real? Yes. Are there predispositions? Yes.

Ultimately, though, if “human nature” is anything, it is adaptability. Malleability.

Choice, if you will.

“Human Nature” is certainly not good. Nor evil. Violent or peaceful. Combative or cooperative.

It isn’t even “love”.

It’s choice.

What some people call “freedom”.

If this isn’t true, by the way, then you might as well assume you and everyone else was born with a fundamentally predetermined script and programming, and there is absolutely no way to improve upon it. The end. Game over.

In other words, you might as well just say there is nothing unique about being human.
